The Itinerary

Day 1: The Gateway to the Sacred Valley

Welcome to Cusco, the historic heart of the Incan Empire, gateway to the Sacred Valley and the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas. On arrival, settle into your hotel and take some time to adjust to the city’s high altitude – 3,400 meters (11,152 feet) above sea level.

Relax at your hotel or take a leisurely walk to get a glimpse into the city’s vibrant culture and rich past. Your exploration of this amazing area kicks off tomorrow, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey through the Sacred Valley and beyond.

Day 2: Guided Cusco City Tour

You’ll have the morning at your own leisure, and after lunch we’ll set off to explore Cusco, the historic heart of the Inca Empire. Stroll along cobblestone streets laid atop ancient Inca pathways and imagine the grandeur of the roads that once connected distant regions to the vibrant Plaza de Armas. The city’s unique blend of Inca and colonial architecture tells a rich story of its past.

From the city, venture to the remarkable archaeological sites surrounding Cusco. Marvel at the engineering genius of Sacsayhuamán, with its colossal stone walls, explore the sacred amphitheater of Q’enqo, visit the Pucapucara Red Fortress, and discover Tambomachay, known as the Inca Bath. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the significance of these sites and the ingenuity it took to construct them high in the Andes.

Enjoy panoramic views of Cusco’s valley and breathe in the fresh mountain air before heading back to the city, where you’ll be dropped off at your accommodation.

Day 3: Via Ferrata & Zip Lining - Full Day Tour

Today we will embark on an adrenaline-filled adventure in the Sacred Valley, starting with an early morning departure from your hotel in Cusco. After a scenic drive to Pachar, just outside Ollantaytambo, gear up to climb the 300-meter Via Ferrata, a rock-climbing route equipped with secure metal steps and cables. No prior experience is needed to ascend this thrilling path, which offers breathtaking views of the valley and Urubamba River.

Once at the top, recharge with a snack while soaking in the stunning mountain scenery. Continue with an exhilarating zipline descent, spanning over 2,800 meters divided into seven sections. Glide through the air, surrounded by the Sacred Valley’s mystical landscapes, for an unforgettable finish to your adventure. Return to Cusco with memories of panoramic vistas and a day packed with excitement.

Day 4: Machu Picchu Trek - Day 1

Cusco → Mollepata → Challacancha | Trek to Soraypampa Camp (3,920m)

Begin your day with an early pick-up at 5:30 AM and travel by bus to Mollepata (2,900m), where you’ll have time to stretch, enjoy the scenery, and pick up any last-minute snacks. The journey continues by car to Challacancha, the starting point of your trek. After final preparations and gear checks, set out on a 3-hour hike to Soraypampa Camp (3,920m). Along the way, take in stunning panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks.

Upon arrival at Soraypampa, enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by the majestic Andes. In the afternoon, hike to the breathtaking Laguna de Humantay (approximately 1.5 hours each way) for unforgettable views of the turquoise glacial lake and towering mountain peaks. Return to Soraypampa, where you’ll spend the night at the trip’s highest campsite.

Day 5: Machu Picchu Trek - Day 2

Trek to Challhuay or Colcapampa Camp via High Pass (4,650m)

After an early breakfast at 6:00 AM, set out on a challenging 4-hour trek to the highest point of the journey, the 4,650-meter-high pass. Nestled between the majestic peaks of Salkantay and Humantay, this awe-inspiring spot offers incredible views of the snow-capped mountains, with the added possibility of encountering snow at the pass. For those seeking a less strenuous ascent, optional horse rentals are available for 100–120 soles.

From the pass, descend for about two hours to Huayracpampa, where a well-earned lunch awaits amidst the stunning mountain scenery. Refreshed, continue trekking for approximately three more hours as the landscape transitions to the lush beginnings of the high jungle. Arrive at your campsite in Challhuay or Colcapampa (2,900m), where you’ll settle in for the night surrounded by the serene natural beauty of this unique region.

Day 6: Machu Picchu Trek - Day 3

Trek to La Playa, Transfer to Hydroelectric Station, and Walk to Aguas Calientes (B/L/D)

The day begins with breakfast at 6:30 AM before setting out on a trek through the lush upper jungle. As you cross the Santa Teresa River and several small brooks, you’ll pass by vibrant valleys with stunning waterfalls, tropical fruits, and diverse plant life. Stop for lunch at La Playa (2,200m), soaking in the warmth of the lower elevations and the surrounding natural beauty.

After lunch, a vehicle will take you to Santa Teresa town (1,700m), where the climate is noticeably warmer. From there, continue by car to the Hydroelectric Station, followed by a scenic 3-hour walk to Aguas Calientes. Along the way, enjoy the transition to a bustling town filled with charm and activity. Aguas Calientes offers internet cafés, cozy spots for board games and cards, and plenty of shops to explore.

Day 7: Machu Picchu Trek - Day 4

Explore Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco (B)

Start your day early by catching one of the first buses at 5:30 AM to Machu Picchu. The 25-minute ride delivers you to this awe-inspiring Incan city just as the morning light begins to illuminate its iconic stone terraces and misty peaks. Enjoy a guided walking tour of approximately two hours, where your guide will highlight Machu Picchu’s most significant sites and share its fascinating history. Afterward, take some time to explore at your own pace, capture photos, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, hike up Huayna Picchu (pre-booking required, additional cost).

When you’re ready, return to Aguas Calientes by bus, then take the train to Ollantaytambo and a bus back to Cusco. You’ll be dropped off in Plaza San Francisco, where you can make your way to your accommodation and relax and relive your amazing trek with your travel buddies!
